Bacon Cheeseburger Egg Roll Recipe:
Ingredients:
- 1.5 pounds lean ground beef, ground turkey, or ground chicken
- 3-4 slices of bacon
- ½ sweet onion, diced
- 1 cup cheese
- 1-2 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 tsp all purpose seasoning
- ½ tsp chili powder
- ½ tsp garlic powder
- ½ tsp paprika
- ¼ tsp onion powder
- ¼ tsp kosher salt
- ¼ tsp white pepper
- 3 tbsp ketchup, optional
- 3 tbsp BBQ sauce, optional
Directions:
- Start by heating a large skillet over medium-high heat. Once hot, add the bacon.
2. Cook bacon on both sides for about 3 mins, or until desired crispiness.
3. Remove bacon and let drain on paper towel.
4. Add diced onion and garlic to the bacon grease.
5. Saute until onions are translucent, about 3-4 mins, constantly stirring so the garlic doesn’t burn.
6. Remove onions and garlic from the pan and set to the side.
7. Add in the ground meat and cook until browned.
8. Drain meat if you need to and return it to the skillet.
9. Add in the onions and garlic, plus all of the dry seasonings. Stir to incorporate.
10. Remove meat mixture from heat and add in ketchup and BBQ sauce, if you’d like.
11. Chop up the bacon and shred the cheese.
12. Transfer meat mixture to a bowl, clean the frying pan, fill halfway with vegetable oil, and place the pan over medium heat.
13. Prepare your work surface for rolling the egg rolls.
14. Place egg roll wrapper on your work surface with one corner facing up, making a diamond shape.
15. Add meat filling to the center of the wrapper. Add cheese and bacon crumbles.
16. Fold the bottom corner up over the filling.
17. Begin rolling the filled egg roll tightly, about halfway, to cover filling. Next, fold in both side corners snuggly against filling. It will look kind of like an open envelope.
18. Use a little water to moisten the edges of the top point.
19. Finish rolling the wrapper up, seal the top corner, and lay flat side down until ready to cook.
20. Repeat with the remaining egg roll wrappers and cheeseburger mixture.
Get ready for deep frying!
21. Once all of those tasty egg rolls are prepared, the oil should be hot enough.
22. Fry egg rolls for 2-3 minutes per side. As soon as the edges are golden brown, flip them over.
23. Drain on paper towels.
24. Serve with your favorite dipping sauce and enjoy!
Notes:
- Optional add-ins: dry ground mustard, dry mango seasoning, adobo, cayenne, or red pepper flakes for heat.
- The ketchup and BBQ sauce are optional, but it does help make the meat mixture a little saucy.
- For parties or appetizers, I would do thinner egg rolls, using only one egg roll wrapper. For dinner or a meal, I would make them a little thicker and wrap them in two wrappers.
Tips and Tricks:
- Try making this cheeseburger egg roll recipe in the oven. Place prepared egg rolls on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Bake for 20 minutes in a 400 degree oven, flipping halfway through cooking time.
- You could also cook them in a single layer in your air fryer basket.
- Add in any other burger toppings you want, like dill pickles or chopped tomatoes.
- Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
Now that you have mastered making egg rolls, try out different flavors to suit your mood. I would love to hear what your favorite egg roll fillings are.
