We love this camp cooker pizza recipe! A few years ago friends introduced us to a handy little camping tool called a camp cooker. Having grown up camping during summer vacations I couldn’t believe that I had never seen this “pie iron” before.

- Foil Pie Plates make tinfoil packet meals even easier with the sturdy base that they provide.
- These Grilling Bags that I recently found are amazing! Simply add all of your ingredients to the bag at home then throw it on the campfire or grill when camping in the great outdoors. Avoid the grill bags with plastic windows, they melt.

Tips for camping meal preparation:
- Prepare meals in advance at home whenever possible. Leave most of the mess at home where running water is more accessible and clean up is easier. Trust me on this one!
- Create “one pot” family style meals for quick dinners that don’t require a lot of thought.
- Use tinfoil packets, foil pie pans or camp cookers. These tools help to make clean up a breeze!
- Pack ingredients in 1 gallon size freezer bags for flexible storage in small fridges and coolers.
- Plan meals that use similar ingredients to help make packing and planning easy. These Cheesy Vegetable Campfire Dip, Loaded Campfire Potatoes and Tinfoil Packet Nacho Dip recipes are some of our favorites.
- Use my blank printable meal plan or camping meal plans to help organize your next trip.

Tips for cooking with a camp cooker:
- When cooking with a camp cooker, begin by applying non stick cooking spray or oil to the inside of both cooking plates. This step is important so that your delicious meal doesn’t stick to the plates and burn.
- Place your recipe ingredients into the cooker before closing and latching it.
- Cook the recipe over an open fire. We recommend placing the cooker over the fire for two minutes before unlatching, checking for doneness and flipping the cooker over to cook the other side.
- Use caution when handling both the metal latch and handles as they can become hot while cooking.

This tinfoil packet nacho recipe is a great way to enjoy pub style nachos while camping. Add this recipe to your next camping trip!
These look so totally awesome yummy.
Dare I say it tastes even better?!
It works just as well with white or wheat bread – no refrigeration needed! We did this with 20 Brownie Girl Scouts – Second Graders – on a very rainy and cold camp out – and the girls never noticed the rain!
Yes! Oh I love Brownies! That must have been a great time! xo
This is the way we always did it, as well as sloppy joe version with chili in the bread…chili and cheese, etc. We grew up using the pie makers, called Hobo pies….an entire meal from meat and cheese filled for the first course to pie filling filled for dessert! Pizza sounds like just the ticket!! :)
We’ve been making these for years. Just for a little added flavor, instead of spraying the cooker with non-stick spray, mix some olive oil and seasonings (a Sicilian blend or garlic parm blend works great!) and brush that on the outside of your crust.
Yum!
I grew up with a pair of these irons that I now share with my kids, greatest camping toy ever! We’ve done anything and everything in them. Pizza is definitely a favorite, but tacos are even better! Tortilla instead of bread, fill with meat and cheese, cut diagonally after cooking and stuff with everything else before chowing down. Fantastic!
We will have to try tacos on our next trip!! Thanks for sharing :)
We call these devices “pie irons” and LOVE them. I have had many neighbors at campgrounds ask about them and can’t wait to buy some of their own.
Tacos are definitely a favorite for us. Before our camping trip, I cook up ground beef or turkey with taco seasoning, and freeze it in a Ziploc bag or other container. Then throw it in the cooler when packing, and it is ready to use with other fillings in tortillas.
We use tortillas for our fruit pies, also, so it is less ‘bready’.
The kids LOVE grilled cheese sandwiches cooked in the irons. Once you close up the iron, it perfectly snips off the crust and seals the edges. :-)
We have done egg scrambles with cheese and vegies that are delicious and cook very fast.
And simple grilled vegies are delicious!!
Possibilities are endless. I cook in these more than any other cookware when camping. We are always coming up with new ideas. It’s just fun!!
I love the tortilla idea! Thanks so much for sharing <3
