Cannied Bacon main

I love a good old fashioned weekend breakfast. You know the kind I mean, pancakes or french toast or crepes or pastries.

Add eggs, fruit, whipped cream, maple syrup, and, of course, bacon. Nothing goes better with a big brunch feast than thick cut maple bacon.

Too busy to make this right away? Pin it for later! Pin this post to your favorite board on Pinterest and it will be there when you’re ready!

Really, just about everything is better when you add in some bacon. It is just so delicious!

Today, I want to share a recipe for candied maple brown sugar bacon with you. It is one of my favorite ways to prepare bacon.

Candied Bacon

The combination of salty bacon, a bit of a spicy kick from the pepper, and the sweetness from the syrup and brown sugar is perfect. Truly magical!

Serve this bacon with an easy dutch baby pancake, easy breakfast casserole or overnight french toast bake.

Substitutions:

  • Add a little spiciness with cayenne pepper.
  • Try making a keto-friendly version of this candied bacon recipe. I love using Lakanto sugar-free maple syrup and Swerve brown sugar substitute when I am making recipes that fit into a ketogenic diet.

Tips and Tricks:

  • Depending on the thickness of your bacon, the total baking time may vary. Thinner bacon may be done faster and very thick-cut bacon will likely take longer. How crispy you like your bacon will also play a part in the cook time.
  • I recommend using really good maple syrup in this recipe. Your taste buds will thank you!
  • Try placing an oven-safe wire rack or cooling rack into your baking pan and laying the bacon on that. This will allow the hot grease to drip down and away from the meat while the bacon cooks. You should also get a crispier final product using this method.
  • Once the bacon is cooked, remove it from the sheet pan and place it onto some paper towels. The paper towel will soak up much of the excess bacon grease for you.
  • Store any leftover bacon in an airtight container in the fridge.
