Kitchen Essentials for Baking:
- I love using this non-stick bakeware for all of my baking.
- These silicone mitts are perfect for grasping hot pans and baking dishes.
- This Henckel Knife is my favorite for slicing and dicing in the kitchen.
- These parchment paper bags are perfect for packaging and these large Rubbermaid food storage containers are great for storing baking in the freezer.
Ingredients:
- ½ lbs. thick cut bacon*
- ¼ cup pure maple syrup
- 2 tbsp brown sugar
- Dash of black pepper
* we like the four pack Kirkland brand from Costco but any kind of thick cut bacon will work.
Instructions:
1. Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F.
2. Line a baking sheet with a piece of parchment paper or aluminum foil and spray it with cooking spray.
3. Cut the bacon strips in half and place them in a single layer onto the baking sheet. Do not overlap them.
4. In a small bowl, mix the maple syrup, brown sugar, and black pepper. Stir everything together until well combined.
5. Using a pastry brush, spread the maple syrup mixture over the bacon, coating both sides.
6. Bake for 18-20 minutes in the oven.
Substitutions:
- Add a little spiciness with cayenne pepper.
- Try making a keto-friendly version of this candied bacon recipe. I love using Lakanto sugar-free maple syrup and Swerve brown sugar substitute when I am making recipes that fit into a ketogenic diet.
Tips and Tricks:
- Depending on the thickness of your bacon, the total baking time may vary. Thinner bacon may be done faster and very thick-cut bacon will likely take longer. How crispy you like your bacon will also play a part in the cook time.
- I recommend using really good maple syrup in this recipe. Your taste buds will thank you!
- Try placing an oven-safe wire rack or cooling rack into your baking pan and laying the bacon on that. This will allow the hot grease to drip down and away from the meat while the bacon cooks. You should also get a crispier final product using this method.
- Once the bacon is cooked, remove it from the sheet pan and place it onto some paper towels. The paper towel will soak up much of the excess bacon grease for you.
- Store any leftover bacon in an airtight container in the fridge.
Give this quick and simple recipe a try. Once you have tasted this delicious candied maple brown sugar bacon, you may never go back to basic bacon ever again.
