Woo hoo! I’m all done canning for the year!!!!!
I think that every sentence in this post will end with an exclamation!
I am thrilled to have all of my canning done and I love gazing at all of those colourful jars in the pantry!
Seriously!!
Yay!
My friend Kara gave me a bunch of lovely pears that I just had to can for winter.
The kids have already gone through half of our canned peaches ~ time to stock up!
I started by peeling, coring and slicing the pears. Darcy helped with the peeling {thanks hun!} and this corer that I picked up years ago from IKEA has been put to good use this year.
Then I soaked the pears in a lemon water solution. I used about 1 cup of lemon juice and enough water to cover everything for 12 pints of pears.
I drained, rinsed and set aside the pears.
Then I made a light syrup using 2 cups of sugar in 2 quarts of water. I brought the syrup to a boil then added the pears. I cooked them for 5 – 10mins.
I placed the pears into my hot, sterilized jars.
And filled the jars with syrup. I used a knife to help get air bubbles out. Then I put a lid and ring on and processed for 20-25 minutes.
12 pints of pears to add to our Winter Pantry.
Thank you so much for following along.
I hope that I have inspired you to start canning or even just to try a new recipe!
What a great idea ~ definitely will have to give it a try.
One day I will try canning! Thanks for making it look easy :)
