Hello! Welcome back to another edition of
Cooking With Kids.
Where I use my own children as test subjects for my Mini Chefs program.
Today we’re making salsa and tortilla chips.
We used:
1 pepper
3-4 roma tomatoes
1/2 white onion
1 celery stalk
1 large carrot
1 Tbsp chopped cilantro
1/4 – 1/3 cup of apple cider vinegar
1 can tomato paste
Isaiah helped chop things up using my Pampered Chef chopper. I would consider cooking the vegetables before chopping. It was hard for the kids to cut through the raw veggies.
Here’s our chopped carrot.
I mixed everything together in a pot and simmered for about 45 minutes.
Looking good.
The boys helped to poor the salsa into their own, individual jars.
I also had them cut out shapes from tortillas using cookie cutters. Then I quickly baked the shapes in the oven.
Here’s our finished snack.
This was a fun one. You should try it!
Fabulous cooking lesson! That is so awesome…I believe cooking is a life skill and I try to teach my kids often too. My daughter is 14 now and she can make & bake almost anything. My son is 10 and he can make grilled cheese and omelets! Have a wonderful Sunday! Angie xo
