Kitchen Essentials For Cooking:
- These Rubbermade containers are perfect for storing and packing food.
- These silicone tongs are great for flipping and grasping food.
- This Henckel Knife is my favorite for slicing and dicing in the kitchen.
- I love using this non-stick bakeware for all of my cooking.
Korean Beef Recipe:
Ingredients:
- 3 pounds sirloin beef, cubed
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 1 ½ cup soy sauce
- ⅓ cup grape juice
- 3 Tbsp sesame oil
- 2 green onion stalks, diced
- 3 tsp garlic, minced
- Rice for serving
Directions:
1. In a large bowl mix sirloin, brown sugar, soy sauce, juice, sesame oil, green onions, and garlic until meat is well coated. Cover and let marinate for at least 3 hours in the fridge.
2. Once meat has marinated for at least 3 hrs, line a baking sheet with foil and transfer meat to a baking sheet.
3. Broil meat in the oven for 5-8 minutes on low or until darkened and cooked to desired doneness.
4. Serve the Korean beef over rice with yum yum sauce drizzled on top. Kimchi salad can be added to the top or served on the side as well.
Notes:
*You can marinate the meat longer than 3 hrs to let the flavors soak into the meat.
Tips and tricks:
- Not all grocery stores carry specialty spices that are used in Korean dishes, like gochujang. Check the asian-food section of large supermarkets or dedicated asian grocery stores when searching for these kinds of spices and spice mixtures.
- If you have looked everywhere, and still can’t find gochujang, try substituting it with Sriracha sauce or your favorite hot sauce.
- Kimchi can be kept in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week. After that, be sure to keep it refrigerated. It may lose some of its crunchy texture over time.
- Yum yum sauce will last for up to a week when stored in an airtight container or squeeze bottle in the fridge.
Alternate Ingredients:
- Red pepper flakes add an extra spicy flavour.
- Sriracha is always a favorite around here!
- Use apple juice or asian pear juice instead of grape juice.
- Rice wine vinegar may be added as well.
- Fish sauce or fresh ginger are also classic additives to our asian dishes.
- Instead of sirloin, try this recipe using lean ground beef, ground turkey, ground pork, or ground chicken.
- You can also thinly slice the steak instead of cubing it making this dish more of a bulgogi beef dish.
What to serve with Korean beef:
- Korean cucumber salad
- Top with sesame seeds
- White rice or brown rice
- Cauliflower rice
- A fried egg
- Green beans
- Korean crispy mushrooms
- Korean macaroni salad
- Add this Korean beef to rice bowls
- Make lettuce wraps
- Korean soybean sprouts
- Yum yum sauce or sweet chili sauce
Add this recipe to your next meal prep plan. With the marinated meat ready and waiting, it’s so easy to make on busy weeknights.
