So I decided to create this simple handmade crochet plant hanger to add a few of them to my vertical space too! This quick project is great for a beginner crocheter and would make a lovely gift for the plant enthusiast in your life!

How to use a crochet plant hanger:
- If you don’t have much of a green thumb, forgo the real plants and display some beautiful artificial ones instead.
- You could also display air plants in a crochet hanger!
- Using a hanging basket works especially well for hanging plants with long tendrils.
- Try using a suction cup to hang your planter from a window or mirror.

Hanging Plant Holder Crochet Pattern:
- Ch 8, to create a magic loop
- DC 6 into the loop (6), ch 2
- DC 2 into each stitch around (12), ch 2
- DC 2 into first st, DC into next stitch and repeat around (21), ch 2
- DC into next 20 st (20), DC 3 into last st (23), ch 2
- DC into next 22 st (22), DC 3 in next st (25), ch 2
- DC into next 22 st (22), ch 10, dc in next 3 (25), ch 2
- SC into next 22 st (22), sc 10 into chain, sc into next 3 st (25), slip stitch to join, tie off
The chain section of the pattern creates a loop that is perfect to use for hanging this crochet basket! You could easily make the basket bigger to hold larger plants by adding stitches to each row.
But seriously, how pretty is this little hanging plant holder you guys?! It fits just beautifully in amongst my basket gallery wall.
Plant hanger variations:
- Try making this easy project using other weights on yarn, like super bulky T-shirt yarn.
- This simple plant hanger is the perfect project for 4-5 inch pots, but can easily be altered in different ways to fit larger or smaller pots.
- Use different weights of yarn, change your hook size, or simply add or subtract stitches to fit the base of your container.
Tips and Tricks:
- When choosing crochet projects, always check the skill level needed, to be sure it’s a good fit for you.
- Crochet hook size can make a real difference in the size of your finished crochet items. If you tend to crochet quite tightly, it may be beneficial to go up a size. If your stitches tend to be loose, go down a size.
- For easy washing, choose cotton yarn.
