Hey y’all!
Remember how I planted a billion tomatoes last spring?
Well they have ripened!! And boy do I have a lot of tomoatoes!
So you’ll be seeing a bunch of tomato related recipes around here for a while.
To kick off the tomato goodness, I give you this classic yummy Freezer Spaghetti Sauce.
This is the perfect recipe to double and then throw extra portions in the freezer for an easy meal another day.
The goods:
1 lb lean ground beef, browned
10 large tomatoes, diced
1/4 cup ketchup
1/2 green pepper, diced
1 medium onion, diced
1 1/2 Tbsp lemon juice
3/4 tsp oregano
1/2 tsp basil
1 bay leaf
2 tsp chilli powder
1/4 tsp garlic powder
1 1/2 tsp salt
1/4 tsp pepper
1-2 cups water
I use a large cooking pot, fry up the ground beef right in the bottom, then add the rest of the ingredients and simmer for 2-3 hours. Once the sauce has cooled off a bit I divide it into two large freezer bags.
Tip: invert the bag into a bowl or container for easier filling.
You can easily double or triple this recipe for mass production of Freezer Spaghetti Sauce.
Ok your tip on putting the bag in the measuring cup is genius! I can’t believe I didn’t think of that. Thanks so much for sharing!
