DIY Hocus Pocus Spell Book!

We are super excited for the release of the new Hocus Pocus movie this year! To celebrate I have created all sorts of nostalgic treats; like these Sanderson sister rice krispies, Hocus Pocus punch, spellbook brownies, Jinx the cat cookies, zombie Billy chocolate dipped pretzels and a whole Hocus Pocus dessert board.

A Hocus Pocus refresher:

The Sanderson sisters are the main characters of the 1993 film, Hocus Pocus. They run amuck with their evil spell book and henchmen Billy Butcherson while hunting children and turning one into Binx, an immortal black cat.

I am always on the lookout for easy crafts to do with the kids! This spell book makes the perfect craft for Halloween. Let me show you how to put it together…

3. Attach two jumbo craft sticks vertically to the left edge of the book with a glue gun and glue sticks. Make sure that the rounded edges of the eight horizontal craft sticks, show about .25”.

Flip the book over, trim the rounded edges off a jumbo craft stick, and attach to the cut edge with a glue gun and glue sticks.

TIP: You can use liquid craft glue for this project, but you will have to wait for it to dry.

4. Paint the book with brown acrylic craft paint. Paint the book spine with dark grey acrylic craft paint. Let dry, and apply a second coat, if necessary.

5. Trace all patterns onto craft foam, and then cut out with scissors. Attach the eyelids to the wiggle eyes with a glue gun and glue sticks.

6. Paint the bracket, and all three snakes with light grey acrylic craft paint. Paint roughly, so that the brown craft foam shows through. Set aside to dry.

Grey craft foam was not available, so use what you have on hand and paint the individual pieces.

7. Dry fit the painted foam pieces onto the book. Using the photo as a guide, draw the stitched lines onto the book with a pencil.

8. Remove the foam pieces and fill in the stiches with black dimensional fabric paint. Set aside to allow paint to dry. Add dots on the book bracket, and eyes on the snakes with black dimensional fabric paint.
