How to decorate with thrift store finds

How to decorate with thrift store finds

I have to give mad props to professional interior decorators.  They have a unique talent to find the perfect thing to pair with your individual style.  An interior designer I am not.  But I have been on a quest to decorate our new Mid Century Modern Danish Antique find in a svelt {does anyone still use that word?} way.  Here are some things that I have learned along the way…

Look for items that will compliment your existing decor.  Don’t plan to find everything that you envision quickly or all together.  It is best to have a list of items that you want to find but be flexible.  For example maybe you are looking for a white set of antlers but can only find natural ones…  buy them!  Then paint them.  Try to keep the upcycle potential in mind.

It can take a long time to find a specific item.  Go thrift shopping often and recruit friends.  Tell them what you are looking for and they can be a second pair of eyes.  This white cookie jar was not exactly what I had in mind but ended up being a perfect find for our teak shelving unit.

Here’s a sneak peek of what I have in the works.  I am still looking for a set of 3 or 4 plain white ceramic canisters… wish me luck and keep your eyes pealed!
