First you need to start with some rocks, clearly! I really like these flat river rocks for painting from Amazon. It can sometimes be hard to find the perfect flat rock for craft projects and so these rocks make it easy! But if you want to go out rock hunting just be sure to wash the rocks that you find thoroughly before using them for your project.
We are huge fans of Jack Skellington and the Nightmare Before Christmas! One year we made this Jack Skellington front door and the boys loved creating this Jack mason jar piggy bank.
Supplies needed:
- 1-2” flat round rock
- Black acrylic paint
- White acrylic paint
- Paint brush
- Pencil
- Magnet
- Hot glue gun
- Mod Podge (optional)
For this project, having a round, flat rock is best. The rounder the better for Jacks face.
Directions:
- Paint the entire rock white. Tip: place a bit of putty on the back of the rock to stick it to your craft surface while painting.
2. Lightly sketch the features onto the rock using a pencil.
3. Paint the features on with black paint (eyes, nose and mouth).
4. Allow the paint to dry completely.
5. Seal with a coat of Mod Podge (optional).
6. Glue a magnet to the back of the rock.
You could do a ton of different things with this craft idea! Use this to embellish a Halloween wreath or add it to a necklace with a bit of hot glue.
