Keto Dark Chocolate Almond Bar Recipe

keto dark chocolate almond bar recipe

Dark chocolate and almonds are a staple of any ketogenic diet. This keto dark chocolate almond bar recipe makes a delicious combination.

My favorite kind of baking recipe is one that is super easy to make but looks absolutely divine.  You know, the kind where friends think you must have slaved away in the kitchen for HOURS!  This keto dark chocolate almond bar recipe is one of those recipes.  These bars look and taste amazing but are simple to make.  Bonus points for this recipe being keto compliant and low carb!

How to make dark chocolate almond bars:

  • In a food processor mix the first five ingredients until butter is evenly crumbled and distributed.
  • Press mixture into a 7×11″ or 9×9″ pyrex baking dish.
  • Bake for 10 mins at 350.
  • In a medium sauce pan melt butter, add powdered Swerve and mix well.
  • Remove from heat and add cocoa, extract and heavy cream.
  • Whisk eggs into the mixture until well combined.
  • Pour mixture over the crust and sprinkle almonds and chocolate chips overtop.
  • Bake for 20 mins at 350.
  • Allow the pan to completely cool before cutting into bars.

Bake the crust first.

Top with filling.

Bake again.  Be sure to allow the pan to completely cool before cutting into bars.  I even go so far as to place it in the fridge or freezer for 10-15 minutes before cutting.  This tip gives me crisp lines when cutting into bars every time.  Otherwise you may end up with a crumbled mess…. delicious but crumbly nonetheless.
Don’t they just look amazing?!

Keto Dark Chocolate Almond Bars are the perfect addition to your holiday baking and trays.  They add a pop of chocolate almond flavour and are perfect for guests and family who may be keto or gluten-free.

If you are not a fan of the almond flour or stevia used in this recipe try experimenting with these alternatives.

Flour Alternatives:

  • Almond flour is my personal favorite for consistency and flavour.  I like to purchase the Kirkland brand almond flour from Costco.
  • Coconut flour can sometimes be crumbly in my experience but good in combination with almond flour.  I like the Red Mill brand.
  • Rice flour is my least favorite in terms of consistency but a great alternative for those who may have allergies.

Sugar Alternatives:

  • Stevia is made from the Stevia leaf, I like to use both the granulated and powdered version of this in my recipes.
  • Monk Fruit extract is made from Monk fruit, this is another great alternative that is low on the glycemic index.
  • Erythritol is a sugar alcohol and another popular low carb sweetener that can be used in baking.
These dark chocolate almond bars will be my contribution to our next keto baking exchange.  I just hope that I can stay out of them until it’s time to trade these goodies with friends!  I will let the photographs simply do the rest of the convincing (as if you need it)…

Hi Heather! Nice to meet another Canadian twin! I am going to make your keto dark chocolate almond bars this week and have 2 questions: 1) can I sub walnuts for almonds? and 2) I don’t have any Lily’s chocolate chips so I was going to omit – is that ok? Thanks for your reply!

Hi- just wondering if I could sub walnuts for almonds and if I could omit the chocolate chips as I don’t have any? Thanks
