The trickiest part to any keto hot cocoa recipe is finding ingredients that are sugar free! This sugar free hot chocolate mix is made up of three simple ingredients; unsweetened cocoa, granulated Swerve and powdered skim milk.

Ingredients:
- 1 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1.5 cups Swerve granulated sweetener
- 1 cup unsweetened whole milk powder
- 12 oz heavy whipping cream, half & half or unsweetened almond milk
The cocoa mix is made first and then added to your hot beverage of choice. This makes the recipe easy to customize depending on your unique, dietary needs.
We like to use heavy cream but you could also easily make this keto friendly hot chocolate with; keto friendly milk, full fat coconut milk, unsweetened almond milk or a combination of heavy cream and hot water.
More regular sugar alternatives:
- Stevia is made from the Stevia leaf, I like to use both the granulated and powdered version of this in my recipes. Swerve brand is my favorite sweetener.
- Monk fruit sweetener is made from Monk fruit, this is another sugar substitute that is low on the glycemic index.
- Erythritol is a sugar alcohol and another popular keto-friendly sweetener that can be used in baking.

To make the hot chocolate keto mix:
- In a small mixing bowl combine unsweetened cocoa, granulated sweetener and milk powder.
- Store this mixture in an airtight container for up to three months.
Stove top directions:
- Heat the heavy cream in a small saucepan over medium heat.
- Stir in two heaping tablespoons of the keto hot chocolate mix.
- Whisk until frothy and well incorporated.
- Carefully pour mixture into a mug.
Microwave directions:
- Heat the heavy cream in a microwave safe mixing bowl at 30 second intervals until hot.
- Carefully add two heaping tablespoons of hot chocolate mix and stir until well incorporated.
- Pour into a mug and enjoy!
The directions make one cup of hot chocolate. The carb count for each serving is under 2 net carbs but be sure to always calculate macros using your specific ingredients and measurements.

How to make keto hot chocolate bombs:
To create keto hot chocolate bombs we simply added the mix, sugar-free crushed peppermints and keto marshmallows to the inside of each chocolate. They were delicious and totally fun for the kids to enjoy!

Tips for making keto hot chocolate bombs:
- Use the official hot chocolate bomb silicone molds, they make removing the hardened chocolate super easy!
- When in doubt, use more chocolate to coat the mold so that the wall of the bomb is thick to hold in the ingredients.
- Keep the chocolate in the freezer whenever possible as the bombs tend to melt easily.
- When drizzling the melted white chocolate chips, be sure to have it warm, not hot otherwise it will melt through your chocolate bomb.
Drop the finished keto hot chocolate bomb into a cup of heated cream or half and half, watch it burst open and stir. Be sure to check out some of our other hot chocolate bomb recipes like this Oreo Hot Chocolate Bomb, Turtle Hot Chocolate Bomb or Holiday Hot Chocolate Bomb.
