Orange Ginger Salmon
Ingredients
- Fresh salmon filet, bones removed
- Orange, zested and sliced
- Green onion stalk, diced
- Fresh ginger, minced – ground ginger may be used in a pinch but fresh ginger is best.
- Garlic clove, minced
- Mango chipotle seasoning – we love this seasoning for grilling fish but any fish seasoning will do.
- Brown sugar – a drizzle of honey works here in a pinch.
Instructions
1. Start by sprinkling fresh ginger, sugar, chipotle seasoning and garlic on the fish. Then top that with the orange zest and green onions.
2. Thinly slice the orange and layer it on top of the salmon filet. Allow the salmon to rest for 15 minutes, soaking in the flavours.
3. Place salmon, skin side down on the BBQ and grill on medium-high heat for about 25mins. Cooking time will depend on the thickness of the salmon.
Tip: cover the grill with olive oil before cooking to help prevent the skin from sticking.
4. Cook until just opaque through the thickest part of the fish.
Tip: don’t worry about the sides or bottom of the salmon burning as the skin acts as a protective barrier. It’s absolutely delicious!
5. Move to a cutting board or baking tray lined with parchment paper to serve.
Store leftover salmon in an airtight container in the fridge.
Variations
- While we simply sprinkle the ingredients over the salmon to create a glaze, you can also mix everything together before hand. Simply combine the ingredients in a small bowl and then brush the orange ginger sauce on the fish with a pastry brush.
- The salmon may be baked in a preheated oven at 350 degrees F on a baking sheet for 25-30 minutes as well.
- Add red pepper flakes for added heat.
What to serve with salmon?
This orange glazed salmon pairs beautifully with…
- Fresh green beans or asparagus are good options.
- This is great with brown rice, garlic rice or white rice. Our boys often add soy sauce or coconut aminos and garnish with sesame seeds.
- Our classic caesar salad or dill & dijon potato salad are summer time staples.
Costco has great deals on fresh Salmon. That’s where we got our salmon the last time that we made this orange ginger salmon recipe.
We’ve been doing a lot of fishing with the boys lately in hopes that we can catch a fresh salmon of our own to cook on the grill soon. Stay tuned!
