Painted Rock Frankenstein Craft
This Frankenstein Painted Rock Craft is absolutely adorable and fun to make with the kids this Halloween. It’s easy to create this character with just a few craft supplies!
We love a good, festive craft project to celebrate the season. This Frankenstein craft is simply too cute and would make a great little paperweight or magnet.
Too busy to make this right away? Pin it for later! Pin this painted rock craft to your favorite board on Pinterest and it will be there when you’re ready.
The key to a good Frankenstein is all in the shape of the rock. He really needs a strong rectangular and/or triangle shape to help define his facial features!

First you need to start with some rocks, clearly! I really like these flat river rocks for painting from Amazon. It can sometimes be hard to find the perfect flat rock for craft projects and so these rocks make it easy! But if you want to go out rock hunting just be sure to wash the rocks that you find thoroughly before using them for your project.
Supplies needed:
- 2-3” rectangular river rock
- Black acrylic paint
- Green acrylic paint
- Paintbrush
- 2 googly eyes
- 1 small wooden spool, cut in half
- Hot glue gun
- Hot glue sticks
- Pencil
- Magnet
- Mod Podge (optional)
How to make this painted rock Frankenstein craft:
- Paint the entire rock green (tip: place a bit of putty on the back of the rock to stick it to your craft surface while painting).
- Allow to completely dry.
- Draw Frank features onto the rock (hair, mouth, scars).
- Paint the features black.
- Seal with a coat of Mod Podge (optional).
- Paint the wooden spool black and cut it in half (tip: a kitchen knife works for this or a strong pair of sheers).
- Allow to completely dry.
- Glue the googly eyes to the front of the rock.
- Next, glue half of the wooden spool to each side of the rock.
- Glue a magnet to the back of the rock.
Crafting essentials for kid crafts:
- We love using these Apple Barrel Acrylic Paints to add bright color to all of our projects.
- These paint brushes are ideal for most craft surfaces and a great price!
- This art supplies kit is our favorite because it has everything we needed to get started.
- This rolling storage cart helps to keep our craft supplies organized.
