And this one is no exception ~ to the point that I’m going to update this post later today with the final project photos ~ taken in natural light. *Updated
I love a good paper mache project. Here I used cut up newspaper, a balloon as my form and paper mache paste {1 cup flour to 1 1/4 cup water}.
My biggest tip? Allow for lots of drying time. Preferably 24 hrs per layer.
Just starting to layer newspaper over my balloon form. Try to overlap layers in a crisscross pattern rather than parallel to each other. This will give your finished project more stability.
This is what your paste should look like. Yum.
For a sturdy structure use at least 5 layers of paper mache.
When all of the layers are completely dry pop the balloon inside. Fill with goodies and decorate as desired.
I painted mine and sketched out an Easter Egg design.
I used pastel coloured tissues, glue {hot glue won out over white} and a pencil to apply my design.
Here’s how I applied a billion {no kidding} little tissue paper puffs to my egg. Wrap a square of tissue around the end of a pencil, apply glue and affix to egg. Repeat again, and again, and again…
And here’s my egg just getting started.
And here it is all finished!
To hang, I ran a dowel through it and tied ribbons to the ends of the dowel.
That’s the hole on top ~ left open for goodie filling.
Be sure to check out one of the most epic paper mache projects you’ve ever seen. This…
Mad Hatter Toad Stool.

This such a cute idea for an egg hunt or Easter party! I love the tip to use a pencil to apply the tissue paper…no burned fingertips that way! I made some paper mache eggs to hang on my doors in place of wreaths this year:)
