Planes, Trains and Automobiles Party!!
My little guys turn four tomorrow! I can hardly believe it! We celebrated their Birthday on the weekend with a
Planes, Trains and Automobiles party!
The theme arose because A. we have twins who B. can’t agree on anything. One likes trains and the other cars and the next day it switches to one liking planes and the other trains. So we threw it all together.
I planned on using more of the house and setting up stations for the party goers to participate in. We also lucked out with the weather this year and actually had the kids outside playing with the Little Tykes cars for awhile!
I planned on using more of the house and setting up stations for the party goers to participate in. We also lucked out with the weather this year and actually had the kids outside playing with the Little Tykes cars for awhile!
The day began with streamers on the boys’ door {for them to crash through when they woke up}….
they chose to crawl under. Truly ~ so cute!
When guests arrived they were greeted by
Stop 1 ~ Little Travellers Race Track.
Each child could take a car and race around the house following the race track that I had placed using painters tape. This was an awesome activity ~ it only took me about 10 minutes to place the track and cost nothing as we had tape on hand already.
I found a really fun plane at Toys R Us and decoupaged it with blue tissue paper to match our green and blue colour scheme. This was the focal point for
Stop 2 ~ Airplane Craft
We had the children decorate clothes pin / popsicle stick airplanes with sequins, paper pieces and glue.
I love this streamers attached to a hula hoop idea. I pinned it awhile ago ~ it’s from here.
We had automobiles and planes covered now it was on to
Stop 3 ~ Train Station
This year we utilized our den downstairs and set up the entire wooden train set {yeah, you know THAT lasted long}. I painted a Birthday Train mural onto craft paper and put all of the party guests names on various parts of the train. We also blew up 30 balloons and hung them from the ceiling.
It wouldn’t be a birthday without a Birthday Banner! And a view of…
Stop 4 ~ Refueling Station
I created a ton of Party Printables to tie everything together. I will be sharing them soon! Laura from Cupcakes and Lemonade has the most gorgeous party packages ~ go check out her shop if you are looking for some fab party goodies. I found my icons here.
I created some fun plane, train and automobile cookies. The boys stole some of these off of the counter a week before the party ~ they said “we only took two mommy, not a whole bunch!” Things are better in twos I guess?
I love this Airline Box Lunch idea. I found it and many other planes, trains and automobile ideas at Anders Ruff. I made sandwiches using croissants and included little fruit salads. We had BLTs, Ham and Jam sandwich choices. Just between you and me, if you ask your local grocer {coughSafewaycough} really nicely, they might give you these fabulous deli containers absolutely FREE!
Disclaimer ~ that gasoline can is new, scrubbed clean and filled with juice. Although the kids thought its was fun to pretend.
More Party Printables on, get this, chocolate cupcakes filled with chocolate chip cookie dough! Capital Y. U. M. The boys must have thought so too because the night before the party they ate 4 large ones, 2 small ones and 4 cookies that they snuck whilst Darcy and I were setting up decorations. When Darcy went to check on them {they were supposed to be sleeping} and noticed chocolate crumbs all over their carpet they said, “its’ just dirt, Daddy. Just dirt.” You’d think we’d learn after the cookie incident!
I stacked three cake/cupcake stands to create my own custom tiered tray.
This was my very first {basic} fondant cake! I’m going to post a tutorial soon ~ it was super easy!!!! Cameron asked why the car wasn’t red like Lightening McQueen. Oi. Tough crowd.
Isaiah, “yikes, my cupcake is on fire!”
Happy Birthday to your little ones!!! Amazing party, love all the details!!
Love the party. It came together great. I wish the kids had birthdays more often because I love all these fun ideas around. Great job!
