Materials

  • White Flameless Pillar Candle
  • Translucent Vellum Paper
  • Acrylic Craft Paint – Black
  • Batteries
  • White Wax Candle – Dollar Store
  • Stick Lighter – Dollar Store
  • Scissors or Paper Trimmer
  • Adhesive Tape Runner
  • Paintbrush
  • Scrap Paper
  • Black Flame candle pattern

Instructions

  • 1. Gather all of the supplies. Download the candle template sheet.
  • 2. Print the Black Flame Candle free printable pattern onto translucent vellum paper. If you don’t have vellum paper, you can also use tracing paper or tissue paper cut to size and taped to a piece of plain printer paper.
  • 3. Turn the candle on and using a dry paintbrush, carefully paint the plastic candle flame with black acrylic craft paint in a sketchy and random manner. Do not paint the entire flame, but make sure that the light is visible through the black paint.
    4. Trim the black flame candle pattern using a paper trimmer or scissors, along the guidelines. This pattern is 6.5” tall by 9.5” wide and is intended for a 3” by 8” pillar candle.
  • 5. Apply adhesive from a tape runner along both 6.5” ends of the pattern. Center the pattern at the front of the candle and carefully wrap around both sides, shifting slightly until they match at the back of the candle.
  • 6. Light a white real wax candle and let it burn for a few minutes to melt the wax. Protect your work surface with a piece of scrap paper.
  • 7. Carefully tip the wax candle over and randomly pour the melted wax along the edge of the flameless candle. Add as much wax and as many drips as you like to replicate the candle from the movie.
  • 8. Turn the candle on and voila! You've created a fun addition to your Hocus Pocus holiday decor.
