Space Eagle
1. Cut an egg shape that measures 25″ across on the bottom and 20″ across on the top. Repeat so that you have two purple eggs.
3. Lay one purple egg and one cotton egg, right sides together. Top with an egg shaped piece of quilt batting and pin together. The quilt batting is used in the costumes to provided added support to the upper portion and a smoother, less bumpy look to the finished costume. Sew together using a 1/4″ seam allowance.
7. Sew the two egg shapes together, right sides facing, using the black pieces of felt.
8. Hot glue gun features to the front of the eagle.
9. Fill the front of the costume with stuffing. Play with the fullness of the costume before sewing/glueing the hole closed.
10. You may want to paint the beak of the eagle grey {as I did} or keep it black. I just used acrylic craft paints.
Use black fabric paint or fabric marker to add details to the features. I prefer fabric paint.
11. Outline the features with fabric paint.
A finished Space Eagle.
Pink Bird
1. Measure and cut two circles of pink felt 25″ in diameter.
2. Cut out two 25″ circles of white cotton. Cut our bird features using the patterns here, here and here.
3. Lay one pink circle and one cotton circle, right sides together. Top with a piece of quilt batting and pin together. The quilt batting is used in the costumes to provided added support to the upper portion and a smoother, less bumpy look to the finished costume. Sew together using a 1/4″ seam allowance.
4. Be sure to leave a 4-6″ hole while sewing so that you can invert the piece, right sides out.
5. Repeat steps 3 & 4 so that you have two stuffed circles. These are the back and front of the bird.
6. Cut out and sew together the top feather. Stuff with batting and attach to a headband with hot glue.
8. Sew the back and front together, attaching the pieces together at the shoulder and chest.
9. Hot glue gun the features to the front of the costume.
10. Fill the front of the costume with stuffing. Glue or sew both the holes in the front and back of the costume closed.
11. Outline the features with black fabric paint.
A complete pink bird.
