It’s hard to believe that Easter is here!   The warm spring temperatures have jump started my desire to shed the gloom of winter and liven up the entire house.

I think that speckled eggs are so timeless and classic so I decided to recreate the look on my decoupage eggs with patterned scrapbook paper and a bit of Mod Podge.  I have always loved decoupaging a wide variety of surfaces. Chairs, tables, picture frames, plant pots… nothing has really been safe from my desire to resurface and redecorate!

1. Begin by tearing up the paper and soaking it in a bit of water.  This makes it a bit more flexible.  Be sure to wipe off the excess moisture.  Tissue paper or paper napkins may be used on the decoupage eggs instead of scrapbook paper and you could then skip this step.

2. Next, coat the egg in Mod Podge, apply the paper and cover with Mod Podge.  Continue until the entire egg is covered.

One tip is to cover one side of the egg with Mod Podge and paper then set it aside in an egg carton to dry before covering the other side of the egg.  This helps to prevent the egg from sticking to your surface while drying.

These would look great thrown into an apothecary jar or displayed in a vintage Pyrex bowl too.  Or get the kids involved and create brightly coloured eggs to hide all over the house and yard!!
