What kind of potato is best?
Did you know that potatoes are a good source of vitamin C and potassium? Eating them with the skin on increases your fiber intake too. Delicious and healthy is a win-win!
I prefer to use russets when baking potatoes because their high starch content gives them a nice fluffy texture on the inside when baked. Yukon golds are a good alternative too, but you can use whatever type of potato you like best.
Air Fryer Baked Potato
Prep Time: 5 minutes
Cook Time: 60 minutes
Total Time: 65 minutes
Serving Size: 2 servings
Ingredients
- Russet potatoes
- Olive oil or spray oil
- Salt, to taste
Instructions
1. Scrub the potatoes clean under running water to remove any dirt or debris and pat them dry with a paper towel.
2. Poke holes in each potato several times with a fork to allow steam to escape during cooking.
3. Rub each potato with olive oil or spray with spray oil and sprinkle with salt.
4. Preheat your air fryer to 385°F for about 3-5 minutes.
5. Place the potatoes in the air fryer basket, making sure they are not touching each other.
6. Cook the potatoes in the air fryer at 385°F for 60 minutes, depending on the size of the potatoes.
7. Halfway through the cooking time, flip the potatoes to ensure even cooking.
8. Once the potatoes are tender and easily pierced with a fork, remove them from the air fryer.
9. Let the potatoes cool for a few minutes before slicing them open.
Recipe Notes
- Small potatoes may require less cooking time, while large potatoes may need more. Adjust the time accordingly to ensure they are cooked through.
- Preheating the air fryer helps ensure even cooking, but it’s not strictly necessary. However, preheating can help shorten the overall cooking time.
- While you can wrap the potatoes in foil, it will result in a softer skin. If you prefer a crispy skin, it’s best to cook the potatoes without foil.
- The potatoes are done when they are tender and easily pierced with a fork. You can also check by gently squeezing the potatoes; they should give slightly under pressure.
- You can reheat leftovers in the microwave or oven, but I prefer to use the air fryer. Simply place the baked potatoes in the air fryer basket and cook at 350°F (175°C) for about 5-7 minutes until heated through.
- Store any uneaten potatoes in the refrigerator in an airtight container for 3-4 days.
Toppings for Baked Potatoes
Besides sour cream, shredded cheddar cheese, and chives, you can also top baked potatoes with green onions, bacon bits, salsa, diced vegetables, pulled pork, or chili for a hearty meal.
