Warm weather is finally on the way and it’s got me thinking of how much fun my family has together during the summer months. This is the time of year for pool parties, beach days, campouts, and backyard BBQs.

I think cookies make the perfect treat in the summer. I can bake cookies ahead of time and store them in the freezer. Then I just pull out a few at a time. They are easy to transport, I don’t need extra dishes for serving, and everyone loves them.

Too busy to make this right away? Pin it for later! Pin this post to your favorite board on Pinterest and it will be there when you’re ready!

A lot of the time, I use my grandma’s classic sugar cookie recipe and decorate them accordingly. Sometimes I take a shortcut and use store-bought refrigerated sugar cookie dough. But sugar cookies are just the beginning.

Today I am sharing some of my favorite summer cookie recipes with you. Use them for themed parties, specific holidays, or just because. Any of these delicious cookies would be an ideal dessert option for all your special occasions this season.

Tips and Tricks

  • Store your sugar cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to two weeks. They also freeze really well and will keep for up to three months.
  • Take your time when working with royal icing. To preserve my finished designs, I like to leave the cookies to dry for several hours minimum before packaging them up.
  • Easily customize the flavor of your cookies by switching vanilla extract for lemon, peppermint, or almond extract.

With so many tasty treats to choose from, which one of these summer sugar cookie ideas are you going to try first? Happy baking!
