Frequently Asked Questions
Why are my Rice Krispie treats hard instead of soft?
Rice Krispie treats usually become hard when the marshmallow mixture is overheated or the mixture is pressed too firmly into the pan. Melt the marshmallows on low heat and gently press the mixture into the dish for softer bars.
How do you keep Rice Krispie treats from sticking to your hands?
Lightly butter your hands or spatula before pressing the mixture into the pan. You can also use parchment paper or wax paper to press the treats down without sticking.
How long do homemade Rice Krispie treats stay fresh?
Rice Krispie treats stay fresh for about 2โ3 days at room temperature when stored in an airtight container. They can also be frozen for up to 2โ3 months.
Can you use regular marshmallows instead of mini marshmallows?
Yes! Large marshmallows work just fine. About 40 regular marshmallows equals roughly 6 cups of mini marshmallows, so you can substitute them easily.
How do you cut Rice Krispie treats neatly?
Let the treats cool completely, then use a buttered or lightly oiled knife to cut them. This prevents sticking and helps create clean edges.
