The Best Patriotic Cupcake Recipe

Ingredients

  • 1 box of Duncan Hines vanilla cake batter prepared
  • Red and blue food coloring
  • 1 tub of Duncan Hines white frosting
  • 1 Tbsp red white and blue sprinkles

Instructions

  • 1. Prepare and make the box cake mix batter in a large bowl as directed on the box.
  • 2. Divide the batter equally into three small bowls.
  • 3. Add blue food coloring to one small bowl and red food coloring to another separate bowl. Stir until a rich, dark color is reached.
  • 4. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees fahrenheit. Prepare a muffin tin with white cupcake liners.
  • 5. Layer cupcake batter into the muffin cups. Drop 2 tablespoons of blue batter, 2 tablespoons of white batter and then 2 tablespoons of red batter into each cupcake liner.
  • 6. Bake for 20 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center of a cupcake comes out clean. Place cupcakes on a wire rack to cool.
  • 7. Use a piping bag with a 1M star tip to frost each cupcake with icing.
  • 8. Top with festive red white and blue sprinkles.

Notes

Add enough food coloring to create a vibrant cake batter color as the color will fade in the baking.
