Ingredients

  • 1 Egg
  • ¼ cup butter melted
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
  • cup milk
  • 2 cups flour
  • 4 teaspoons baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 3 tablespoons sugar
  • Black gel food coloring
  • ¼ cup strawberry syrup
  • ½ teaspoon red gel food coloring
  • 2 tablespoons white icing

Instructions

  • Start by placing your egg, vanilla, ¼ cup of melted butter, and milk into a mixing bowl. Whisk together until well combined.
  • Place your flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar into a large bowl. Whisk until well combined.
  • Combine your wet ingredients with your dry ingredients. Mix until well combined. Small clumps are fine. Do not over mix! Add black food coloring until black batter is achieved.
  • Heat up your griddle or skillet on medium heat. Add a small amount of butter to grease the skillet.
  • I use an ice cream scoop and pour 1 ½ scoops of pancake batter in the center of the skillet.
  • Let cook until bubbles begin to form on top of the pancake and the edges are baked through. Flip and cook the other side for about one minute, until done. Remove from the skillet. Repeat until all batter is used up.
  • Stack pancakes on a serving dish and set aside.
  • In a small bowl, mix together your syrup and red food coloring. Fill up your syringe.
  • If you choose to add icing, use the back of a tablespoon to smear it on top of the pancakes, creating a ghost shape. Use a toothpick and black gel food coloring to create a cute little ghost face.
  • Serve them up and hand the kiddos a syringe to top their pancakes with fake blood! Spooky fun! Enjoy!

Notes

  • Instead of a ghost, draw spider webs or monsters. You could also use orange icing to decorate your pancakes with pumpkins or jack-o-lanterns.
  • Pieces of fresh fruit, like blueberries, banana slices, and raspberries, are great for creating spooky designs on your pancakes. Add details with candy eyes, jam, chocolate chips, and whipped cream for even more fun.
