Yield: 1
- 10-15 twigs, cut into 18″ lengths
- Twine or hemp rope
- Hot glue gun
- Glue sticks
- Wire
Start by placing five twigs into a star shape. Then glue the ends together.
Layer more twigs over the original five, gluing the ends as you go.
Wrap twine around the joints where the twigs meet. Use hot glue to attach the twine, wrap around the joint, and glue again to fasten.
Coil a 12″ piece of wire into a spring shape. Glue it to the bottom of the star.
Place the twig star at the top of your tree.
- Dry your twigs before crafting. Fresh ones shrink and crack as they dry, which can ruin your star shape or cause the whole thing to fall apart.
- Add a touch of shimmer by lightly brushing the twigs with metallic gold paint or dusting them with glitter before gluing.
- Use floral wire hidden under the twine for extra sturdiness if your tree topper will be stored from year to year.
- Want a farmhouse vibe? Add a simple burlap bow or some faux greenery behind your star.
- Secure your topper with zip ties for real trees and wire for artificial ones — no more toppling toppers!
- Store your twig star in a shallow box between tissue paper to keep it safe and ready for next year.
