Ingredients

  • 4 large Eggs
  • 1 cup Eggnog
  • 1 tsp Vanilla extract
  • ½ tsp Ground nutmeg
  • ½ tsp Ground cinnamon
  • 8 slices Texas toast
  • 1 tbsp Butter for skillet
  • Powdered sugar for topping
  • Whipped cream for topping
  • Syrup for topping

Instructions

  • Start by adding your eggs, eggnog, vanilla, nutmeg, and cinnamon to a large bowl. Whisk until well combined.
  • Soak each side of your bread in the egg mixture until well coated.
  • Heat up your skillet or griddle on medium-low heat. You don’t want to cook your bread too fast and burn it. Grease with butter.
  • Cook each slice of bread on your well greased skillet, until each side is golden brown, about 5 minutes.
  • Stack on your serving dish. Dust with powdered sugar if desired. Top with whipped cream and syrup.
  • Serve and enjoy.

Notes

  • Use a shallow baking dish for the eggnog batter to ensure easy dipping and even coverage for each slice.
  • I like to use regular store-bought eggnog, as I find the light varieties don't have the same depth of flavor. You could also use your favorite homemade eggnog recipe.
  • Add a drop of rum extract to the batter for that subtle holiday taste without the alcohol.
  • Of course, we love real maple syrup, but you could also try this simple homemade pancake syrup or use honey.
  • You can freeze leftover slices of French toast once they have cooled and store them in a large freezer bag or airtight container. They make the perfect grab and go breakfast!
