Ingredients

  • 1 box Betty Crocker Brownie Mix
  • ¼ cup water
  • cup vegetable oil
  • 1 egg
  • 2 oz black candy melts
  • ¼ cup large candy eyes

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 350 degrees f.
  • Line the bottom of a square 8 inch x 8 inch nonstick baking dish with parchment paper.
  • In a large bowl with an electric mixer or stand mixer with paddle attachment; combine brownie mix, water, oil, and egg. Mix on medium speed until a smooth brownie batter is formed.
  • Transfer the batter to the prepared baking pan and spread it evenly around the square pan.
  • Bake for 30-35 minutes, until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
  • Allow the brownies to cool for at least one hour.
  • Cut the brownie into 12 rectangular shape bars.
  • In a small bowl, melt the chocolate in the microwave at 15-second intervals until smooth.
  • Spoon the melted chocolate into a piping bag or bottle with a small icing tip.
  • Add spellbook details to the top of each brownie with the melted chocolate.
  • Finally, add a candy eye to the top of the brownie with a drop of melted chocolate.

Notes

  • Don’t overbake—pull the brownies out when they’re still slightly fudgy for maximum chew.
  • Black icing can be used rather than melting chocolate wafers.
  • Mix powdered sugar with a tiny splash of milk and food coloring to create a quick icing if you’re out of candy melts or frosting.
  • If you don't have a piping bag, a freezer bag with the tip of a corner cut off would work too.
  • Chill the brownies before decorating to make piping the designs easier.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container or wrap them up for the freezer.
  • If you're gifting these, use parchment paper bags to package them like spooky spellbook scrolls!
