Prevent your screen from going dark

Instructions

  • Grease an 8x8 inch pan (or 9x9") with butter or nonstick cooking spray and set aside.
  • Place the purple marshmallow peeps in a medium microwave-safe bowl, add 1 tablespoon of butter and microwave for 30 seconds to melt the butter, remove from the microwave, stir and microwave for an additional 15 seconds.
  • Pour 1.5 cups of the rice cereal into the bowl and mix with a rubber spatula to combine.
  • Spread the marshmallow mixture into an even layer in the prepared pan, pressing with a piece of parchment paper to prevent sticking if needed.
  • Repeat these steps with the different colors of peeps until you have a layer of each of the colors.
  • Top with frosting, sprinkles and extra peeps (if you have them) before cutting them into bars with a sharp knife.

Notes

  • You can heat the marshmallow mix in a large pot over low heat instead of using the microwave.
  • If you want an extra gooey treat, add mini marshmallows to the mixture along with the Peeps.
  • Adding a little food coloring can enhance the color of the Peeps for an even more vibrant Easter dessert.
  • Store in an airtight container for best results – this keeps them fresh longer!
  • Press lightly when layering the colors – you don’t want to pack them too tightly or they’ll start to mix.
  • Try cutting them into fun shapes - use cookie cutters to make Easter-themed designs.
  • Make a double batch – these go fast, especially if you have a house full of hungry teenagers!
