Ingredients

  • 1 cup pomegranate seeds about 1 pomegranate
  • ¼ cup white sugar
  • 1 cup vodka

Instructions

  • Cut open a pomegranate and deseed.
  • Place pomegranate whole pods in a medium saucepan.
  • Add sugar and cook on medium for 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  • Use a potato masher to crush the juice from the seeds.
  • Remove from the heat and add vodka.
  • Strain mixture through a fine-mesh sieve, straining out the pomegranate pulp and seeds.
  • Pour the resulting juice into a large jar.
  • Store the final product in an airtight container until ready to use.

Notes

  • Use a funnel for bottling to avoid sticky counters (and save your holiday party outfit from splatters).
  • Label jars with the date you made them so you always know when they’re at peak flavor.
  • Make mini bottles as gifts — just add a gift tag and a decorative ribbon.
  • If the flavor feels too strong, dilute with a splash of simple syrup to soften it.
  • Strain twice for a crystal-clear liqueur that looks extra fancy in cocktails or a champagne spritz.
  • Make a batch early and let it infuse longer. The flavor becomes more complex over time.
  • Pair it with a touch of tequila for a smoky, festive twist in margaritas.
