I have instructions for a wide foot with the pattern for a narrow foot in italics and a child’s foot in bold.  The child sizing could also be used as a small womenโ€™s size. You will have to try the slipper on to determine how long you want it to be.

Gauge and hook size are not super important for this project as the yarn will stretch as you wear the slippers.  When in doubt, make a smaller slipper, as I have a pair that have stretched and keep slipping off.

This great pattern needs less than a skein of yarn and is an easy way to use up some of your yarn stash! In the photos I’ve doubled up my worsted weight yarn for thickness but it’s not necessary.

Rounds:

2 – ch 1, work 12 hdc into the circle (10 hdc / 8 hdc), sl st to join, turn

3 – ch 1, work 2 hdc into each st around (24 hdc / 20 hdc / 16 hdc), sl st to join, turn

4 to 6 – ch 2, dc into each st around, sl st to join, turn

Let’s continue to create our comfy slippers!

7 – ch 2, work one dc into each stitch around minus 4 stitches (leaving an ankle opening), ch 2, turn

8 to 12 – dc into each st around, ch 2, turn (20 dc, 16 dc, 12 dc)

Continue in this manner until the slipper is the length that you want it. For the boys, a child’s size ten, I had six rounds after the toe piece. For myself, a womenโ€™s size 8, I had eight rounds after the toe piece.

When you have completed your rounds to the desired length, fold the slipper inside out and sew the sides together using your yarn needle. Sc around the opening, tie off, sew the yarn tail into the slipper with a tapestry needle, and you are finished!

Crochet slipper variations:

  • Add leather soles to your finished slippers.
  • Create a double sole for extra cushion.
  • Extend the top edge for easy slipper socks.
  • Adjust your yarn weight and hook size to change up the look of your slippers. Keep in mind that this may also affect the finished size of your project.

You can easily change up the look of this easy pattern by using chunky yarn, t-shirt yarn, pom poms, or a variety of bulky weight yarn in your favorite color. Keep your toes toasty on a cold winter day with this simple slipper pattern!

Tips and Tricks:

  • When choosing crochet projects, always check the skill level needed, to be sure itโ€™s a good fit for you.
  • Crochet hook size can make a real difference in the size of your finished crochet items. If you tend to crochet quite tightly, it may be beneficial to go up a size. If your stitches tend to be loose, go down a size.
  • For easy washing, choose a cotton yarn.

  1. Thank you for your fab tutorial. I have been searching and searching for a fast simple & fantastic slipper pattern, and am halfway through the first one & had to comment!

A friend is SOON starting her first teaching job, with 4 5yr olds – whom she’d like to have slippers for the classroom. With your FAB pattern, I may get them done in time & be able to surprise her! Thank you!

  2. I made a pair for my 6 year old son and he was so excited when he got home form school and his slippers are ready for him. I also made a pair for my sister. I am now making a pair for my 7 year old son. I let them pick their own colors and they decided to go with two colors instead of the same color to mix it up. I love these they are so quick and easy to make.

  3. I have been searching for an easy slipper pattern for a few weeks which actually fits the kids and this is it! I love it! Thanks!

  4. These are adorable! I’m going to try them. Wish me luck. I haven’t crocheted in years and didn’t do a lot even them. ;)

  5. This will be my first project and I have a question. For the toe part. When you say turn, you actually turn the piece? I kept going around making a circle, but now I am not sure…

    1. Yes, I actually turn the piece as I found that this helps to prevent the circle from “waving”. However I have also stitched around {and not turned} and that has worked too.

  6. Parabรฉns trabalhos incrรญveis. Mรฃos abenรงoadas.
    Obrigada por compartilhar.
Pena que nรฃo falo e nรฃo leio inglรชs.
    Deus te abenรงoe.

  7. Thank you so much for this simple pattern! I first tried to make a pair of lace up crochet flip-flops, and I can tell you, it was a complicated, tangled mess. These slippers actually stay on my feet, too. I would like to share than in order to get rid of the triangle-ness of the heel of the slipper, at the end, instead of doing 16 dcs, I did 5 dcs, 6 dc2togs, and 5 dcs. I know adding in dc2togs kind of defeats the purpose of simple, but I figured I’d share. Thanks!

  8. Heather, these slippers are wondeful! I’ve recently learned to spin and I have balls and balls of quite ‘textured, uneven’ handspun alpaca yarn to use. As you can imagine, the unique qualities of this yarn makes a bit tricky to work with but I can’t bear to waste it. I made a pair of your slippers and my toes are wrapped in soft squishiness, thanks so much for your beautiful patterns โ™ก

  9. Are you crocheting with 2 strands of yarn or just 1?
I’m a beginner crocheting and this pattern looks easy enough for me to understand. Thanks.
