Supplies
Begin by stocking the kitchen with a few of my favorite baking supplies!
- Baking sheets
- Parchment paper
- Rolling pin
- Mixing bowls
- Measuring cups and spoons
- Pizza cutter
- Pastry brush
- Wire rack
Ingredients
- Pillsbury Crescent Rolls – I try to have these in the fridge all the time.
- Strawberry jam – homemade or store bought.
- Candy eyes – a fun food staple!
Instructions
- Open the tin of rolls and unroll the dough onto a floured surface.
2. Divide into four and press the seams of dough together.
3. Use a pizza cutter to cut one of the dough rectangles into strips.
4. Spread an even layer of jam onto the remaining dough.
5. Place strips of dough on top of the dough.
6. Cut the dough into rectangles and place them on a parchment paper lined cookie sheet.
7. Bake for 7-9 mins at 350 degrees.
8. Remove from oven and add candy eyes to each mummy.
Tips and tricks
- Once the baked pies have cooled completely, they can be stored at room temperature in an airtight container, for up to 5 days. They can also be frozen for up to 3 months.
- When fresh fruit is abundant, we like to make our own filling. Cherries, strawberries or raspberries would all be a great choice!
- Store-bought pie dough or pizza dough works for making mummy pies too.
Hand pie variations
- Any flavor of jam can be used as pie filling. Pumpkin pie filling, cherry pie filling or apple pie filling would all be delicious.
- You could also try making these with homemade puff pastry dough.
- Whip up a simple icing by mixing powdered sugar, water, and a splash of vanilla extract together in a small bowl. Add a drizzle to the top of each hand pie.
- Serve with a dollop of vanilla ice cream or whipping cream.
