Inspired by our love of Oreos, this chocolate Oreo cake is to die for! Classic oreo cookies, cream cheese frosting and chocolate cake mix are the three main things that you need to pick up from the grocery store to get started.

But seriously, Oreo cookies provide a classic cookie crumble and flavour to any recipe. As a busy mom, I like to find quick recipes like this to create fun desserts for parties and gatherings.

Ingredients:

Note: Reserve six oreo cookies for topping, which is about 1/2 cup of crushed Oreos. I like to crush Oreo cookies by placing them into a plastic bag and use a rolling pin to smash them into fine crumbs.

1. Heat oven to 350 degrees F.

2. Line a 9×13″ baking dish or two 8×8″ cake pans is with parchment paper or spray with non stick cooking spray.

3. In a large bowl, combine the ingredients to make the cake batter. Mix with a hand mixer on medium speed as directed on the box.

4. Add 1 cup of crushed Oreos to the batter, reserving 1/3 of the Oreos for topping.

Tip: placing the Oreos in a large freezer bag and crushing them with a rolling pin works best to create Oreo cookie crumbs.

18 regular sized Oreos makes about 1 1/2 cups of roughly crushed cookie crumbs.

5. Bake the cake as directed on the package of cake mix. This is typically 25 minutes for an 8×8″ pan. Allow it to cool on wire racks .

6. In a medium bowl cream together cheese, sugar and vanilla until smooth. An electric mixer works well for this but you could also using a stand mixer with the paddle attachment.

7. Fold the cool whip into the cream cheese mixture.

8. Spread the frosting over top of the cake layer.

9. Top the whole cake with the reserved crushed Oreo cookie pieces.

  • Betty Crocker Chocolate Fudge Cake Mix, prepared
  • 18 regular Oreo cookies, crushed
  • 1 cup Cool Whip Topping
  • 6 oz Philadelphia cream cheese, softened
  • 1/2 cup white sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
