Enjoy perfectly crispy air fryer chicken thighs, seasoned to perfection and cooked to a juicy tenderness. This recipe is a healthier, yet still flavorful, alternative to fried chicken.
These bone-in chicken thighs are a great source of protein. Add your favorite side dishes, like baked potatoes and a green salad, for a complete meal the family will love.
I really enjoy eating the leftovers cold too! Along with pasta salad or potato salad, I can put together a delicious picnic for a beach day or road trip. So good!

Air Fryer Chicken Thighs
Prep Time: 10 minutes
Cook Time: 22 minutes
Total Time: 32 minutes (+ marination time)
Serving Size: 4 servings
Ingredients
- Chicken thighs, bone-in and skin-on
- Salt
- Dried parsley
- Dried oregano
- Black pepper
- Onion powder
- Garlic powder
- Olive oil
Instructions
1. In a small bowl, mix together salt, dried parsley, dried oregano, black pepper, onion powder, garlic powder, and olive oil to create a marinade.
2. Place the chicken thighs in a large bowl or resealable plastic bag and coat them evenly with the marinade. Let them marinate in the refrigerator for at least 1 hour, or up to overnight for maximum flavor.
3. Preheat your air fryer to 380°F (190°C) for about 3-5 minutes.
4. Remove the chicken thighs from the marinade and shake off any excess marinade.
5. Place the chicken thighs in the air fryer basket, skin side down, in a single layer. You may need to cook them in batches depending on the size of your air fryer.
6. Cook chicken thighs in the air fryer at 380°F (190°C) for 12 minutes.
7. After 12 minutes, flip the chicken thighs over using tongs and cook for an additional 10 minutes, or until the internal temperature reaches 165°F (74°C) and the skin is crispy and golden brown.
8. Once cooked, remove the chicken thighs from the air fryer and let them rest for a few minutes before serving.
9. Garnish with fresh herbs if desired, and serve hot with your favorite side dishes.
Recipe Notes
- If you find that your chicken is quite damp, especially if it has been in the freezer, pat it dry with paper towels before coating it with the marinade.
- You can use boneless skinless chicken thighs if preferred. Adjust the cooking time slightly as they may cook faster than bone-in, skin-on thighs.
- Feel free to customize the marinade with your favorite herbs and spices to suit your taste preferences.
- If you want to add a little heat to the marinade, cayenne pepper or red pepper flakes work well.
- While marinating adds flavor, you can still cook the chicken thighs without marinating them. Just season them with salt and pepper before air frying.
- You can use chicken drumsticks following the same cooking instructions. Adjust the cooking time if needed based on the size of the drumsticks.
- An instant read thermometer is your best friend when it comes to ensuring your meat is cooked to a safe temperature. I highly recommend you invest in one.
- Store any leftover chicken in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 5 days.
