Hot Chocolate Recipe

Cold winter days call for cozy drinks and snuggling under warm blankets.

When the weather outside gets yucky, I love wrapping up on the couch with a mug of something delicious and reading a good book or bingeing my latest favorite show. It is such a peaceful way to spend the afternoon.

Too busy to make this right away? Pin it for later! Pin this post to your favorite board on Pinterest and it will be there when you’re ready!

Yummy hot drinks can come in many forms, but I don’t think it gets much cozier than a mug of hot chocolate.

My boys agree and our family can go through an awful lot of hot cocoa packets throughout the winter season. But there are times I just want something a little more special than little packets of powder.

The recipe I am sharing with you today for homemade hot chocolate is not your everyday hot chocolate.

It has a rich chocolate flavor and creamy texture that is perfect for sharing on special occasions. Serve it at holiday parties or as a decadent treat on Christmas morning.

Don’t let it’s richness fool you though. This recipe is so easy to make! With just a few minutes of prep time, and a little bit of patience, you will soon be enjoying the best hot cocoa you have ever tasted! You may just need to make a double batch!

Ingredients

Here’s what you’ll need to make the best slow cooker hot chocolate of your life!

  • Milk – this easy slow cooker hot chocolate starts with regular milk (whole or reduced-fat will work best). If you use an alternative milk, opt for something creamy like oat milk.
  • Chocolate chips – semisweet chocolate chips create a perfectly balanced flavor. You could also use milk or dark chocolate chips.
  • Heavy whipping cream – heavy whipping cream is the key to a creamy, decadent, rich slow cooker hot chocolate.
  • Sweetened condensed milk – like so many decadent recipes, this hot chocolate calls for a can of sweetened condensed milk.
  • Vanilla – a teaspoon of vanilla extract lends complexity and takes the overall flavor up a notch.

Variations

  • Use different types of chocolate, like milk chocolate chips or white chocolate chips, instead of semisweet.
  • Chop up your favorite chocolate bars.
  • You can try substituting different nut milks, like almond or cashew milk. This may effect your results though.
  • Add a pinch of cayenne pepper.
