Truffle fries vs regular fries?
So what’s the deal with truffle fries?
Lately, truffle fries have been the flavor of note. This twist on the classic French fry has become increasingly popular on restaurant menus. In case you are unfamiliar, crispy fries are topped with fresh herbs, a drizzle of truffle oil, and cheese.
Truffle oil is the star ingredient here. It used as a finishing oil, not as a cooking oil, though. In order to create that incredible truffle flavor, olive oil is infused with real truffles or an artificial truffle flavoring. It should be used sparingly, so that it doesn’t overpower the other flavors in your dish.
Truffle fries recipe:
Ingredients:
- 1 bag frozen shoestring fries
- 1/4 cup parmesan cheese, finely grated
- 2 Tbsp fresh parsley, chopped
- 1 tsp truffle oil
- 1/2 tsp sea salt
Directions:
1. Cook the fries in the air fryer at 400 degrees F for 10-15 minutes. Toss the air fryer basket half way through the cook.
Tip: My favorite method for cooking fries is air frying them. It is a healthier option than using a deep fryer, while still giving them that crispy, fried texture.
You can also bake your fries. Place fries on a prepared baking sheet, spreading them out into a single layer. If you are using frozen fries, bake them according to the package directions. If you are making your own home fries, they should bake for 15-20 minutes at 350.
2. Once they are fully cooked, transfer the fries to a large bowl and toss them with the oil, cheese and parsley.
3. Add a sprinkle of salt for seasoning.
4. Serve these delicious truffle fries with roasted garlic aioli for dipping.
Tips and Tricks:
- A little truffle oil goes a long way. You don’t want the intense flavor of the oil to overpower your dish, so use it with care.
- While black truffle oil has a stronger flavor and aroma, it is also usually less expensive. White truffle oil is much more delicately flavored. Sometimes they can be used interchangeably in a recipe, but not always. Read your recipe thoroughly.
- I love using frozen shoestring fries in this recipe, because they are so easy. You can make your own homemade French fries though. I recommend using russet potatoes for that and cutting long strips of potato for frying.
- These truffle fries are best eaten fresh. If you do have any leftover fries, they should be stored in an airtight container in the fridge.
These crispy parmesan truffle fries are truly so delicious! I hope you enjoy them as much as we do!
