Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef prepared
  • 1 cup salsa
  • Head of lettuce
  • 1 cup Tex Mex shredded cheese
  • Nacho chips
  • Sour cream optional
  • Cilantro for garnish

Instructions

  • Prepare the ingredients.
  • Place ground beef, salsa, and cheese in the skillet.
  • Cook over the fire until the cheese is melted and the dish is heated completely.
  • Top with fresh cilantro.
  • Serve with lettuce, nachos, and a dollop of sour cream.

Notes

  • Cook and season the ground beef at home, then store in a large freezer bag for camping. This makes prep and cleanup while camping easy!
  • Be sure to use oven mitts when handling the hot cast iron.
  • When cooking with cast iron, be sure to season the surface first.
  • Always use gloves or oven mitts while cooking, as the surface of the iron will be hot.
  • Cook the recipe over an open fire using hot coals, not open flames. A fire that is too hot will burn the outside of your recipe and not cook the inside.
  • Be sure to clean the cast iron with a rough vegetable scrubber, rinse, and dry thoroughly before storing.
