Ingredients

  • 6 all beef hot dogs
  • 6 hot dog buns
  • BBQ sauce

Instructions

  • Set the smoker temperature to 225 degrees F.
  • Remove individual plastic wrapper or hot dog casing if needed.
  • Poke holes or cut score marks into the dogs, optional.
  • Use a pastry brush to brush a bit of BBQ sauce onto each dog.
  • Place dogs onto the grill of the smoker.
  • Cook for 60 minutes or until the internal temperature reaches 140 degrees when a thermometer is inserted into the end of the hot dog.
  • Use the tongs to place the dogs on a sheet pan or tray for serving.

Notes

  • Cook time may need to be adjusted depending on the size of the hot dogs that you are using. Adjust accordingly.
  • Keep that smoker lid closed—every peek drops the heat and the delicious smoke flavor.
  • A wireless meat thermometer makes checking temperature a breeze.
  • Try sprinkling a bit of garlic powder or mustard powder on your buns before toasting.
  • Use a sheet pan to transfer hot dogs so you don’t lose any to the grass.
  • Leftover hot dogs may be stored in an airtight container for up to one week in the fridge. You can microwave hot dogs to reheat them for later.
  • Get creative with your condiments—try sauerkraut, banana peppers, or even a squirt of sriracha.
