If you’re looking to bring a bit of Buddy’s iconic cheer into your holiday decor, look no further than this tree! This year, I decided to give my Christmas décor a fun twist with this Elf themed tree.

The Buddy the Elf theme was an obvious choice because, let’s be honest, who doesn’t love that lovable, syrup-chugging, elf-on-a-mission energy? He’s my favorite!

I already have a soft spot for Buddy, so why not bring the magic to our tree too? After a recent girls trip to Seattle and a stop at Hobby Lobby, I gathered up everything that I could think of to create this iconic tree!

Between DIY Buddy the Elf ornaments and fun treats like Buddy’s favorite spaghetti (with syrup!), this tree is a sweet tribute to everyone’s favorite holiday movie.

I have included links to similar supplies found on Amazon.

How to create an Elf Christmas Tree

1. Gather your supplies. We’re going all in with colorful ribbon, faux fur, and fun garlands. You’ll want a mix of textures and colors to make your Buddy-themed tree pop! I snagged a bunch of goodies from Holly Lobby and Dollarama, including colorful ribbon picks, garlands and ornaments to add some texture and magic to the tree.

2. Create your Buddy-inspired ornaments! Think oversized peppermints, snowballs, and whimsical pieces.

  • Take the peppermint plates, wrap them in cellophane and tie with ribbon to create large peppermint ornaments.
  • Make paper chains but cutting white paper into strips and glueing them into loops that link together.
Three decorative chalkboards with playful phrases in white text: Smiling is my favorite, Son of a nutcracker, and Cotton-headed ninny muggins. They are surrounded by festive decorations.

  • Use the chalkboards to write your favorite elf quotes! Kim, from a Girl and a Glue Gun, has great printable Buddy the Elf quotes if you don’t trust your own hand writing. P.S be sure to check out her Buddy tree for more inspiration!
A decorative sign with a red arrow and lights reads Santa I KNOW HIM! in white text. The word Santa is stylized in cursive above the arrow. The background is plain.
  • Take a sign from Hobby Lobby and paint an Elf quote on it too.
Red and white curly ribbons attached to long wooden sticks are laid out on a white surface. A small tag with text is visible among the ribbons.

3. Add coordinating embellishments. To complete the look, add extra fun touches like DIY snowball ornaments or store-bought syrup, coke and candy canes. The key is to embrace all the colorful, fun details that make Buddy’s world so special!

4. Finishing touches. For the topper, I used giant peppermint and giant candy cane picks from Hobby Lobby. You could easily DIY these too! Finally, the ultimate in making this Buddy the Elf tree stand out – the life-sized Buddy the Elf cut out. This Buddy figure brings a huge smile to my face every time that I see it!

Now, prepare yourself for a whole lotta Buddy fun — this tree turned out so epic that I’m pretty sure Buddy himself would be proud.
