Holiday sangria is one of my favorite drinks to serve during the holiday season. It’s just so easy to throw together this white wine Christmas sangria in a punch bowl and serve in our favorite stemless wine glasses.

With holiday parties just around the corner, I like to have a bottle of wine or two on hand at all times.

What is sangria?

Sangria is an alcoholic beverage that usually consists of wine, fresh fruit, fruit juices and some kind of non-alcoholic mixer. A festive Christmas sangria often includes warm spices and seasonal fruit like cranberries or pomegranates.

Living in the Okanagan, wine country, we are fortunate to be surrounded by a wide selection of wineries. In our opinion, the best white wine to use for this Christmas sangria recipe is this Riesling from See Ya Later Ranch. Cabernet sauvignon, pinot grigio, sauvignon blanc or a rose would also work but won’t have the same rich flavour.

How to garnish a winter sangria?

  • Add lime slices, green apples or orange slices to this festive drink.
  • Use cinnamon sticks, star anise or other whole spices to warm up the flavour profile.
  • Experiment with seasonal fruits, rosemary sprigs, green pears or granny smith apples!

This white Christmas sangria recipe is great because there are endless good options for personalizing it to your taste.
