Coconut Shrimp Dipping Sauce (Sweet Chili Recipe)

This coconut shrimp dipping sauce blends vinegar and sugar with a touch of chili, creating a perfect balance of sweet and spicy to complement crispy shrimp.

What is sweet chili sauce?

This is a quick, six ingredient sauce that tastes better than anything found in the grocery store!  It’s sweet, spicy and tangy – perfect for serving with tender shrimp.

Supplies

Coconut Shrimp Sauce

Ingredients

Start with a few simple ingredients from the grocery store. The complete list can be found in the recipe card below.

  • Rice vinegar
  • Water
  • White sugar
  • Ginger, minced
  • Garlic, minced
  • Red pepper chili flakes
  • Cornstarch

Instructions

1. Add water, sugar and vinegar to a small sauce pan.

2. Cook over medium heat for a couple of minutes until the sugar dissolves. Stir consistently with a whisk.

3. Reduce heat to low and add ginger, garlic and chili flakes.

4. In a small bowl combine corn starch and enough cold water to create a slurry.  

5. Add the cornstarch mixture to the sauce and simmer for another minute or two until it begins to thicken.

6. Remove from heat, allow to cool and serve.

Recipe Notes

For best results use the ingredients as the are listed.

This sauce will last a long time (up to two weeks) in an airtight container in the fridge.

It’s perfect for juicy shrimp made with any cooking process or for different types of fish dishes.

Our favorite is crispy coconut shrimp!  It’s jumbo shrimp in a panko breadcrumbs and coconut mixture. Homemade coconut shrimp are simple to make with this easy recipe!
