Dutch Oven S’mores Recipe
These Dutch oven s’mores will blow your mind. This easy recipe might just be the tastiest thing we’ve ever made while out and about in the great outdoors!
There are some foods that absolutely must be made when we are camping. S’mores are at the top of the list.
Our family makes them almost every day of every trip, in some form or another. My guess is that s’mores are an essential camping food for a lot of people. Today I want to share a different take on this traditional staple.

We clearly love s’mores in all varieties. There is just something so nostalgic about these sweet treats.
All of the different textures and flavors of the graham crackers, melty chocolate, and toasted marshmallows combine to create something magical. We’ve made skillet s’mores, mint Oreo s’mores, cinnamon bun s’mores, and even clay s’mores ornaments!
This Dutch oven s’mores recipe takes the rest of them to a whole new level. It’s like having a giant s’mores dessert cake while camping, seriously! The best part is how incredibly easy it is to make. Let me show you.
Dutch Oven S’mores
Ingredients
- 1 pkg graham crackers (150 g)
- Semi-sweet chocolate chips (100 g)
- Mini marshmallows (100 g)
Instructions
1. Line a cast iron Dutch oven with parchment paper. This step can be skipped if you want, but it helps to make clean up WAY easier.
2. Break the graham crackers into pieces and spread them out in a layer on the bottom of the skillet.
3. Sprinkle chocolate chips onto the crackers.
4. Top with mini marshmallows and repeat these layers if desired.
5. Cover the Dutch oven and cook over the fire or grill for 15-20 minutes.
Just look at that all that ooey, gooey goodness! Grab a graham cracker, your favorite cookie, a piece of fruit, or a spoon and dive in!
Variations
- Switch things up by using different kinds of cookies and chocolate chips to create your layers.
- Instead of chocolate chips, use your favorite chocolate bar instead. You can break up the bar or leave it whole, though it may take longer to melt that way.
- Make your layers in a graham cracker pie crust.
- Serve this s’mores recipe with ice cream for an extra special treat.
Tips for Cooking with Cast Iron
- When cooking with cast iron, be sure to season the surface first.
- Always use gloves or oven mitts while cooking, as the surface of the iron will be hot.
- Cook the recipe over an open fire using hot coals, not open flames. A fire that is too hot will burn the outside of your recipe and not cook the inside.
- Be sure to clean the cast iron with a rough vegetable scrubber, rinse, and dry thoroughly before storing.
