Cold winter days always get better with cozy drinks and warm blankets.

When the weather outside gets yucky, I love wrapping up on the couch with a mug of something delicious and reading a good book or bingeing my latest favorite show. It is such a peaceful way to spend the afternoon.

Crockpot Apple Cider

Today’s slow cooker apple cider recipe is exactly the kind of hot drink I can’t stop talking about. This recipe comes from my years of volunteering in the kitchen at Living Nativity.

It’s simple, but absolutely delicious and easy to make in large batches to serve thousands of guests. I’ve dialed it back a bit so that you can create the same nostalgic taste and feeling with a crockpot.

Apple juice is slow cooked with warm spices and bright citrus. The end result is a wonderfully warm cider with just a bit of tang from the orange. I absolutely love it and you will too!

This beverage is perfect for the holiday season and it makes the entire house smell delicious too! For any gathering that I host, I like to have drinks available for all ages to enjoy.

Apple cider is a great option for this. Make it even more festive by topping it with whipped cream, caramel drizzle, and a pretty garnish of fresh apple slices.

4. When you’re ready to serve the cider, discard the spices, cinnamon sticks, and orange slices using a small fine-mesh strainer to remove them.

I’ve left them in our cups here to add as a garnish but it’s not needed.

Variations

  • Include more spices like star anise, fresh ginger, and whole allspice berries.
  • Make slow cooker caramel apple cider by adding caramel sauce in with the rest of the ingredients, adjusting the amount to match your personal preferences.
  • If you prefer your cider with a touch more sweetness, add a little bit of brown sugar or maple syrup to the crockpot. Both flavors go well with apple.

Tips and Tricks

  • Put the whole spices into a spice bag for easy removal. If you don’t have one, make your own using a coffee filter or loose leaf tea bag.
  • For the best results, I recommend using high-quality apple juice for this recipe.
  • Store any leftover apple cider in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 2 days.
