Grinch Inspired Rice Krispie Squares

These Grinch rice krispie treats are a total hit in our house every December! The boys absolutely drool when they see that bright green frosting layer and those little red heart sprinklesโitโs like Christmas magic in dessert form.
Theyโll sneak into the kitchen โjust to check if they can have any yet,โ which we all know means stealing a piece (or two). Soft, chewy, and full of festive cheer, these treats have officially become part of our familyโs holiday traditions.

WHAT ARE RICE KRISPIE TREATS?
Rice krispie treats are primarily made of rice krispies cereal, melted butter and mini marshmallows. These Grinch squares are made even more fun by combining colorful layers and topping them with green frosting!

How to Make Grinch Rice Krispies
I love, love, love how these Grinch Treats turned out! They would be fun to pack up individually, wrap with a bit of baker’s twine and gift to friends and family. Or simply serve them on a plate and watch them disappear!
Ingredients
- Salted butter
- Miniature marshmallows
- Rice Krispies cereal
- White frosting
- Red candy hearts
- Festive holiday sprinkles
- Red food coloring
- Green food coloring

Instructions
1. In large saucepan melt butter over medium-low heat. Add marshmallows and stir until completely melted. Remove from heat.
2. Add rice krispie cereal. Stir until the cereal mixture is well combined.
3. Divide into two separate bowls. Add red food coloring to one and green food coloring to the other. Mix until the color is uniform in each bowl.

4. Spread alternating layers of the colorful rice krispie mixture into a greased 9 x 9 inch baking dish.

5. Add green food coloring to the frosting and mix until uniform.

6. Spread frosting over the top of the rice krispie mixture, top with sprinkles and red candy hearts.

7. Allow to completely cool before cutting into bars.

Store these yummy treats in a large freezer bag or airtight container for up to two weeks at room temperature. They can also be stored in the fridge or freezer (if they last that long).
