Orange Ginger Salmon

Ingredients

  • Fresh salmon filet, bones removed – Make sure your salmon is as fresh as possible for maximum flavor.
  • Orange, zested and sliced – Sweet, juicy, and the perfect partner to ginger.
  • Green onion stalk, diced – Adds a pop of color and a subtle, oniony bite.
  • Fresh ginger, minced – Ground ginger may be used in a pinch, but fresh ginger is best.
  • Garlic clove, minced – Because garlic makes everything better.
  • Mango chipotle seasoning – We love this smoky seasoning for grilling fish, but any fish seasoning will do.
  • Brown sugar – Sweetens things up with a hint of caramelized goodness. A drizzle of honey can be substituted in a pinch.

3. Place salmon, skin side down, on a preheated grill and cook on medium-high heat for about 25 minutes. Cooking times may vary depending on thickness of the salmon.

Tip: Use a grill mat or brush the grill with olive oil before cooking to help prevent the skin from sticking.

4. Cook until just opaque through the thickest part of the fish.

Tip: Don’t worry about the sides or bottom of the salmon burning, as the skin acts as a protective barrier. It’s absolutely delicious!

5. Move your cooked salmon to a sheet pan or baking dish lined with parchment paper, then dive in!

Store leftover salmon in an airtight container in the fridge.

Tips and Tricks

  • Fresh is best for this recipe. Freshly squeezed orange juice, grated orange zest, and minced fresh ginger and garlic are the keys to a truly flavorful glaze.
  • While we simply sprinkle the ingredients over the salmon to create a glaze, you can also mix everything together beforehand. Simply combine the ingredients in a small bowl and then brush the orange ginger sauce onto the fish with a pastry brush.
  • Marinate for maximum flavor. Letting the orange ginger marinade soak into the fish for 15-20 minutes makes all the difference.
  • For a different cooking method, bake your salmon on a baking sheet at 350°F for 25-30 minutes or until just opaque.
  • Mix things up with a sprinkle of red pepper flakes for heat or a dash of sesame oil for an Asian-inspired twist.
