How to Make the Best Grilled Halibut
This grilled halibut recipe is also sure to make anyone a fresh fish convert! The combination of delicious flavors and the way that this is cooked is seriously to die for. It’s so delicious that I keep asking for more!
Ingredients
- Halibut fillets, cut to 1/2″ thickness, skin removed
- Butter, melted
- Lime juice
- Salt and black pepper
Instructions
1. Heat the grill to medium. We like to use a cast iron grill pan on the stove top, but this can also be done on the BBQ with a well seasoned grill or on a George Forman grill. Melt the butter in the skillet and allow to slightly brown.
2. Season both sides of the fish with salt and pepper and place on the hot grill.
3. Cook for 2-3 minutes per side. Sprinkle with lime juice before removing from the pan. Tip: Do not overcook the fish! The biggest mistake that people make when cooking fish is overcooking it. You want the meat to be just opaque.
Can you spot the halibut cheeks that we have on the grill? If you are a fisherman, then you know that these are a highly coveted, absolutely delicious part of the fish! The kids gobbled these up before they even left the pan.
Recipe Notes
- This recipe can also be made with halibut steaks. The cooking time may change, so use a meat thermometer if you are unsure.
- I like to pat my fillets dry with some paper towel before getting started.
- Feel free to add other seasonings according to your tastes, like garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, or cumin. Fresh parsley or cilantro would be delicious too.
- Instead of lime juice, use lemon juice and serve with extra lemon wedges on the side.
This halibut fillet is perfectly grilled, still juicy, and tender. Any kind of white fish will work beautifully in this recipe!
