Holiday sangria is one of my favorite drinks to serve on Christmas Eve. It’s just so easy to throw together this red wine Christmas sangria in a punch bowl or pitcher and then serve in stemless wine glasses.

This is the ultimate festive drink for the holidays. Perfect for girls nights or parties with friends!

What is sangria?

Sangria is an alcoholic beverage that usually consists of wine, fresh fruit, fruit juices and some kind of non-alcoholic mixer. A festive Christmas sangria often includes warm spices and seasonal fruit like cranberries or pomegranates.

With holiday parties just around the corner, I like to have a bottle of wine or two on hand at all times.

Living in the Okanagan, wine country, we are fortunate to be surrounded by a wide selection of wineries. In our opinion, the best red wine to use for this Christmas sangria recipe is this cabernet sauvignon from Quails’ Gate. Sauvignon blanc, pinot noir or a rose would also work but won’t have the same rich flavour.

How to garnish a winter sangria?

  • Add lime slices, green apples or orange slices.
  • Use cinnamon sticks, star anise or other whole spices to warm up the flavour profile.
  • Experiment with citrus fruits, a sprig of fresh rosemary or green pears!

This festive drink is awesome because there are endless good options for personalizing it to your taste.

I’m making this recipe for New Year’s Eve. It already tastes amazing! I’m having 15+ people over so I quadrupled the recipe and decided to add a few sprigs of rosemary. Excited to try it!
