Whether we are out to eat or hanging out at home, nachos make a simple meal or snack. They are perfect for sharing, it’s easy to make just a single serving or enough to feed an army, and there are so many delicious toppings to choose from.

I love recipes that can be adjusted for everyone’s individual tastes without adding a ton of work.

Today I want to share a recipe for nachos that are made in an air fryer. Sheet pan nachos are great, and perfect for feeding large crowds, but I don’t always want to heat up the oven.

I can use the microwave, but that often leaves me with soggy nachos. Using the air fryer is a great option for achieving the crispiness I get from the oven, without heating up the whole house.

This air fryer nacho recipe is perfect for an easy snack or quick weeknight dinner. The only things you need are tortilla chips, your favorite toppings, and plenty of ooey, gooey cheese.

I have given you a basic recipe, which is a great place to start, but I have also included a list of more toppings that you may want to add. You may even want to leave out the meat and make yourself some vegetarian nachos. Let’s get started!

Supplies

  • Ninja Air Fryer – this is a great all-around air fryer in my experience!
  • Parchment paper – awesome for lining the basket of the air fryer and making clean up a breeze.
  • Air Fryer Paper Liners – these disposable air fryer liners work great too!
  • Cutting board – for slicing & dicing ingredients.
  • Knife – this is my go to kitchen knife.
  • Paper Towels – for patting the shrimp dry.

Ingredients

Start with a few simple ingredients from the grocery store.

  • Lean ground beef
  • Taco seasoning – we love this homemade taco seasoning recipe but a store bought packet works too.
  • Corn tortilla chips
  • Cheddar cheese, shredded – using pre-shredded cheese is an easy time-saver.
  • Fresh pico de gallo – you can also use regular salsa.
  • Sour cream – this homemade cilantro lime crema would be great too!
  • Green onion stalk, diced

Instructions

1. Cook the ground beef. This can be done in a large skillet or the air fryer. Add taco seasoning and set aside.

More Topping Ideas

  • Substitute the beef for ground turkey or Rotisserie chicken.
  • Black beans
  • Pinto beans
  • Refried beans
  • Bell peppers
  • Diced tomatoes
  • Black olives
  • Jalapenos
  • Banana peppers
  • Try a different type of cheese. Monterey jack, Tex Mex, or a Mexican cheese blend would all be delicious.
  • Fresh cilantro

Tips and Tricks

  • The exact cooking time will vary depending on the size of your air fryer and how full it is. Keep a close eye on things to avoid burning.
  • For a smaller serving on nachos, simply make a single layer instead of two.
  • The chips will get soggy over time. To prevent this, eat them right away or reserve the pico de gallo for topping, rather than cooking it in the air fryer.
  • While they are best when eaten immediately, leftover nachos can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge.
  • We have a ton of yummy homemade salsa variations that you could try, like this fresh salsa, the best homemade canned salsa, and a yummy mango salsa.
