Ritz Cracker Toffee Recipe

Make this buttery Ritz Christmas Cracker Toffee with snowflake crackers and melted chocolate. It’s an easy, festive holiday treat everyone loves!

This recipe is my spin on the traditional Christmas cracker toffee, made with Ritz snowflake crackers instead of plain crackers or saltines. Same buttery, caramel, chocolate magicโ€ฆ just way cuter and festive.

This is one of those recipes that magically disappears faster than socks in a dryer. Iโ€™ll make a pan, set it aside to cool, and somehow the teenage boys wander through the kitchen โ€œjust to lookโ€ and suddenly half the tray is gone.

Why You’ll Love This Recipe

This recipe is wonderfully forgiving, which makes it perfect for busy holiday baking when distractions (and teenagers) are unavoidable. It also breaks into rustic, snackable pieces that are ideal for sharing, gifting, or sneaking straight from the pan.

This is one of my go-to treats for cookie exchanges, holiday gifting, or when you need something festive but donโ€™t have the patience for rolling dough or chilling cookies. It looks fancy, tastes indulgent, and secretly takes very little effortโ€”my favourite kind of holiday recipe.

A box of Snowflake Ritz crackers, a bowl of butter, a bowl of chocolate chips, and a bowl of brown sugar are arranged on a wooden surface, each labeled with text.

Ingredients

  • Butter โ€“ This creates the rich, buttery base that turns into that irresistible caramel layer.
  • Dark brown sugar โ€“ Brown sugar melts into the butter to form a sweet, glossy toffee with deep flavour.
  • Ritz snowflake crackers – The salty crunch that balances the sweetness perfectly and gives this recipe its signature texture.
  • Chocolate chips โ€“ Smooth, creamy chocolate that melts beautifully over the hot toffee.

Recipe Notes

  • Make sure your crackers are packed tightly on the baking sheet so the toffee spreads evenly without gaps.
  • Watch the butter and sugar closely as it comes to a boil, stir consistently for several minutes to allow the mixture to thicken and incorporate. I like to use a whisk for this.
  • Spread the chocolate while itโ€™s still warm so you get a smooth, glossy layer.
  • Let it cool completely before breaking it into pieces for clean edges and the best crunch.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container to keep the toffee crisp.

Frequently asked questions

Can I use regular Ritz crackers instead of snowflake ones?
Yes, absolutely. The snowflake crackers are festive, but regular Ritz work perfectly and taste just as good.

Do I need to refrigerate the toffee to set it?
Nope. Letting it cool at room temperature is best so the chocolate sets without condensation. I often quick set it in the fridge or freezer though!

Can I use milk or semi-sweet chocolate instead of milk chocolate?
Definitely. Milk chocolate is classic, but dark or semi-sweet chocolate works great if you prefer a less sweet finish.
