Ingredients:
- Family sized pack of oreos, 36 cookies
- 8 oz cream cheese, softened
- 6 oz white chocolate melts
- 6 oz pink chocolate melts
- 1/4 cup festive pink, red & white sprinkles
Note: You could also melt chocolate or red chocolate candy melts and use them to drizzle over the cookie balls instead of sprinkles.
Directions:
1. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
2. Place oreos in a stand mixer with paddle attachment.
3. Mix at low speed until all of the oreos are crushed into a fine oreo crumble. Tip: a food processor can be used for this step too.
4. Add softened cream cheese to the mixing bowl.
5. Mix on medium speed until a soft dough forms.
6. Cover the dough in plastic wrap and place in the fridge for at least 30 minutes.
7. Remove the dough from the fridge and roll into tablespoon sized balls. Tip: a small cookie scoop can help to get uniform sized balls.
8. Place the balls in the freezer for at least 1 hour to chill.
9. Melt the chocolate wafers in a microwave-safe bowl. Heat in 15 to 30 second intervals, checking and stirring each time so that the chocolate doesn’t burn.
10. Remove the cake balls from the freezer and dip them in the melted white and pink chocolate. Tip: use a fork for dipping to help the excess chocolate drip from each ball.
11. Place cake balls on the prepared baking sheet and immediately top the melted candy coating with valentine sprinkles.
12. Place the chocolate balls in the fridge and allow them to harden completely before serving.
Store these yummy treats in a large freezer bag or airtight container at room temperature for a few hours. They can also be stored in the fridge for a week or freezer for up to three months.
Easily make this recipe into Valentine cake pops by adding a dab of melted chocolate to the end of a lollipop stick, placing the stick into the ball and then dipping into the melted chocolate chips.
TIPS FOR MAKING THESE SWEET TREATS:
- Use Wilton candy melts for best results, the wafer chocolate melts the best. Add one teaspoon of coconut oil to other melted chocolate chips to help them melt and pour better.
- Lay the chocolate covered treat on a parchment lined baking sheet for easy moving and transporting before the chocolate has hardened.
- Place the chocolate balls in the fridge or freezer to completely cool before serving.
These Valentine’s Day cookie balls are a fun addition to a cookie baking exchange this holiday season! Try using peppermint extract, milk chocolate chips, golden oreos, different colored candy melts, crushed candy canes, white chocolate drizzle or red sprinkles for a totally different look.
