How to Make Oreo Cake Balls Ingredients

Instructions

1. Line a baking sheet with a piece of parchment paper to make your life easier when it comes to transferring your balls later!

2. Grab your rolling pin or use a stand mixer with a paddle attachment and crush the Oreos into fine crumbs. You can also use a food processor if you have one on hand.

Tip: No stand mixer? No problem! Place the Oreos in a freezer bag and smash away with a rolling pin. The finer the crumbs, the better!

3. Add the softened cream cheese to the Oreo crumbs. Mix on medium speed until it all comes together in a soft dough that you can roll into balls.

4. Cover the dough in plastic wrap and pop it in the fridge for at least 30 minutes. This will make it easier to shape the dough into uniform 1-inch balls. Patience is key!

5. After chilling, roll the dough into 1-inch balls. For perfectly sized balls, a small cookie scoop works like a charm!

6. Place your little Oreo balls in the freezer for at least an hour to firm up. This ensures the chocolate coating won’t melt off when you dip them!

7. Melt your white chocolate melts and pink chocolate melts in a microwave-safe bowl in 15-30 second intervals in the microwave. Stir between.

8. Take your chilled Oreo balls and dip them into the melted candy melts using a fork (this lets the excess chocolate drip off). Once they’re fully coated, place them back on the parchment-lined baking sheet and sprinkle with your Valentine’s sprinkles or drizzle with some dark chocolate for that extra wow factor.

9. Stick your chocolate-covered balls in the fridge and let them harden completely. Trust us, the wait is worth it!

Tips & Tricks

  • Once they’ve cooled, store these delectable Oreo balls in an airtight container. They can stay at room temperature for a few hours, in the fridge for up to a week, or freeze them for up to three months (if they last that long!)
  • I use an entire package of Oreos, the family size one, which makes the perfect amount of cookie crumbs to combine with a brick of cream cheese.  You can easily adjust the recipe as needed by reducing the number of Oreos and cream cheese.
  • Chocolate may also be melted using the double boiler method over the stove if you prefer. If you’re feeling extra, drizzle some dark chocolate or red candy melts on top for a different look!

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use other types of Oreos for this recipe?

Yes! While classic Oreos are always a winner, feel free to experiment with different flavors like golden Oreos, mint Oreos or peanut butter-flavored ones. Just make sure to crush them into fine crumbs before mixing with the cream cheese.

How can I make the chocolate coating smooth and glossy?

The easiest way to ensure your chocolate coating is perfect is by using candy melts, which are designed for easy melting and dipping. If you’re using regular chocolate chips, you can add a teaspoon of coconut oil to help it melt smoothly and evenly.

Can I make these Valentine Oreo balls into cake pops?

Absolutely! If you want to turn them into adorable Valentine cake pops, simply add a dab of melted chocolate to the end of a lollipop stick and insert it into each ball. Then, dip the ball into your favorite chocolate coating, and you’ve got a fun, festive treat ready to gift or serve!
